Empathic Knowledge and Modern Geopolitical Crisis An interview with Lucía Losada Terreros
During this third consecutive Model United Nations at Colegio Bolivar, the Tribuna staff is honored to present Lucía Losada Terreros as your 2020-2021 Secretary-General. Her elevated sense of responsibility, her commitment to her community, and her passion for public policy transformation have allowed her to become the chief executive officer and public face of the organization. Having participated in more than 12 models internationally, serving as commission president on multiple occasions, and consistently ranking at the top of her class, we trust that her work will be nothing short of exemplary. Beyond academia, Lucía is an outstanding tennis player, a skilled crochet seamstress, and, on occasion, an obsessive Netflix binge-watcher. She’s an activist for making education accessible to all and is particularly interested in breaching the technological gap that has become most evident in students across the globe (and in our own cities) in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her strong-headed, resilient, and generous nature has forced her to look into solutions for the crisis faced by the education system, and is hoping to direct the Colegio Bolívar Voluntariado on this mission next year, to best help our less privileged youths. As a young girl, whenever her father traveled abroad, he would bring her back a special monument from his place of visit. The Taj Mahal, the Moscow Kremlin, the Great Sphinx of Giza, the Pantheon, and the Kofuku Temple, are only a few of the several statuettes she cherishes over her nightstand. Every new gift brought her a greater knowledge of her geopolitical context and made her mighty aware of what allowed this vast world-view: culture. Ever since, Lucía’s passion for learning about other countries, their history, and their internal conflicts has only increased, highlighting her as a special leader among her peers. Recently, she has studied the internal conflict in Nigeria rooted in the interaction of exceedingly contrasting cultures and religious indifference in particular. Characterized by empathy, her pursuit of knowledge has been relentless. It’s this same type of empathic knowledge that she wishes to provide the MUN staff and delegates with this year.
